Pioneer of Workplace Safety during Pandemic

Challenges

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, every company is compelled to adapt to ensure the safety of its employees and comply with governmental regulations. While some organizations have implemented work-from-home arrangements, CATAPA has developed a comprehensive solution to address this transition by introducing an online attendance feature accessible through a web-based application on mobile devices.

Nevertheless, CATAPA acknowledges that not all employees can work safely from their homes. Certain individuals are required to be physically present in the workplace, exposing them to increased health risks due to interactions with a larger number of people. CATAPA aims to contribute to and provide a swift solution for these workers, extending its support beyond its customer companies. The objective is to safeguard their well-being and accelerate an end to the pandemic.

My Role

My team and I collaborated to develop CATAPA Safe, a mobile application accessible to company administrators and employees – be it current CATAPA users or non-users. CATAPA Safe is designed to assist users in maintaining a safe distance of 2 meters from one another utilizing Bluetooth, providing timely notifications in the event of a breach. Moreover, administrators have the capability to monitor employees who have been affected by COVID-19 and issue notifications to users who have interacted with them, urging caution and examination.

Key considerations and business goals in crafting this solution include prioritizing design and development speed. To achieve this, I designed the application interface to be as simple as possible, utilizing available resources. The primary aspects of the application's design include:

1. A straightforward homepage, displaying whether the user is within safe limits or not.

2. Concise and accessible interface for each function.

3. Utilization of a foundational template from Material Design to eliminate UI component creation time, given CATAPA's lack of prior experience in mobile app development to be reutilized. Despite this, branding is aligned with CATAPA HRIS to maintain familiarity.

4. Versatile and commonly used design patterns catering to both Android and iOS users, so that the developers can implement for both platforms at once.

5. Agile and nearly parallel design and implementation, recognizing the urgency of the problem to be addressed.

Outcome

CATAPA Safe stands as a testament to our commitment to innovation, efficiency, and the well-being of employees. Its successful implementation underscores the importance of leveraging technology to address real-world challenges, providing a swift and adaptable solution for companies navigating the challenges of the pandemic and beyond.

CATAPA Safe has achieved notable success in terms of user adoption and satisfaction. As of the last update in 2022, the application has been downloaded by thousands of users across Android and iOS platforms with average rating of 4.6/5, demonstrating its widespread acceptance within the user community.
